Bengaluru, June 17 (Reporter) BJP leaders staged a protest across several districts in Karnataka on Monday, opposing the Congress government's decision to increase taxes on fuel, which has led to a significant hike in petrol and diesel prices.
Addressing a large gathering at Freedom Park in the city, State BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa said that his party would continue protesting until the price hike is rolled back.
"As an opposition party, it is our duty to speak up. The Congress leaders, aiming to secure 18 to 20 seats, are in a state of desperation. Furthermore, Congress MLAs are openly expressing dissatisfaction with the government's assurances. Notably, the Congress administration has failed to initiate any development projects, not even a single rupee has been allocated," he reiterated.
Senior BJP leader and LoP in the state assembly, R Ashoka, flayed Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, alleging that he speaks with a forked tongue and belongs to a category of leaders who lack respect.
He also highlighted that the Congress government suffered a setback with the resignation of former Minister B Nagendra, linked to the ₹187 crore Maharshi Valmiki Tribal Welfare Board scam, and warned that Siddaramaiah's resignation could be the next blow. "The guarantees are funded by the state Treasury, not by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Rahul Gandhi, or the Congress party," he alleged.
Prominent BJP leaders, including Abhay Patil, Anil Benake, Subhash Patil, Geeta Sutar, Mahadevappa Yadawad, Sanjay Patil, Mahantesh Dodagoudar, Mahantesh Kavatagimath, and Murughendragouda Patil were present at the protests in Belagavi. Similar demonstrations were reported in Gokak, Nippani, Vijayapura, Shivamogga, and Bagalkot districts...////...
