BJP slams Siddaramaiah over Muslim contract reservation denial

Bengaluru, Nov 12 (Reporter) Karnataka BJP on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, accusing him of "dishonesty" over the issue of reservations for Muslims in government contracts. The row erupted after claims surfaced that Siddaramaiah had denied existence of any such proposal despite reports claiming otherwise. Karnataka Leader of the Opposition (LoP) R Ashoka criticised Siddaramaiah for what he called "blatant dishonesty" in denying the existence of a proposal to reserve government contracts for Muslims. Ashoka questioned Siddaramaiah’s integrity, asking, “Do you have any sense of integrity or ethics?" The BJP leader highlighted a letter purportedly sent on August 24 by Siddaramaiah’s political secretary Naseer Ahmed, along with Minister for Waqf and Tourism Zameer Ahmed Khan, and other Muslim MLAs, which reportedly requested a 4 per cent reservation for Muslims in government contracts. According to Ashoka, Siddaramaiah had instructed the Finance Department to review the request and submit a proposal on the matter. He also accused the Chief Minister of approving an amendment to the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (KTPP) Act to facilitate the reservation. Despite these developments, Siddaramaiah has categorically denied the existence of any such proposal. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) issued a statement, dismissing the claims as "false news."
