Agartala, July 1 (Reporter) The opposition CPI-M in Tripura moved the State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday alleging that the ruling BJP was threatening rival party candidates against contesting Panchayat polls scheduled in August.
CPI-M State Secretary and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, in a letter to Election Commissioner Sharadindu Choudhury, alleged that the BJP was fuelling “unrest” and “terrorizing the opposition political party supporters”.
In his letter, Chaudhury stated that BJP workers in Dharmanagar of North Tripur were issuing statements that anyone aspiring to contest Panchayat elections on CPI-M or Congress ticket would face dire consequences.
“As the State Election Commissioner, the independent authority overseeing the electoral process, such situations created by the ruling party-backed miscreants demand immediate decisive action,” the letter read.
He urged the SEC to direct the police to arrest BJP leader Subrata Rudra Pal and his followers who allegedly issued threats to Opposition candidates...////...
