BJP TN Unit Prez Annamalai holds novel whiplash protest seeking justice for Anna Univ sexual assault victim

Chennai, Dec 7 (Reporter) In an unique protest seeking justice for the sexual assault victim of the prestigious Anna University in Chennai and to condemn the atrocious incident, BJP Tamil Nadu President K Annamalai flogged himself in front of his residence in Coimbatore on Friday. MrAnnamalai, clad in green dhoti with sacred ash on hi forehead, flogged himself six times with a lash. The novel protest was to seek justice for the sexual assault victim and also highlight women's security. Not attaching any importance to the ruling DMK ridiculing his mode of protest, Mr Annamalai, as announced on Thursday, held self flagellation on his bare body. A large number of BJP functionaries and workers gathered in front of his residence and raised slogans in praise of Lord Muruga, whose weapon is 'Vel' (spear). Shouts of "Vettri Vel... Veera Vel" (Victory for the Spear, Vel of Valour) rent the air as Mr Annamalai flogged himself six times. Several women, who had gathered in the spot, broke into tears and appealed to the BJP leader not to torture himself like this protest. While announcing the whiplash protest, Mr Annamalai had also said that he would undertake a 48-day Vridham (fasting) and would visit all the six abodes of Lord Muruga and complain to him. He had also taken a vow not wear footwear till the DMK was ousted from power and that his political approach would be entirely different from today, saying having waited for more than three years he decided enough is enough and decided to take on the DMK regime. Meanwhile, a DMK Minister and Party Organisational Secretary R S Bharathi termed Mr Annamalai's novel protest as a drama. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Education Minister Govai Chezhian told reporters that the state government would extend full cooperation to the National Commission for Women (NCW) which had initiated suo motu proceedings into the sexual assault incident. Stating that the DMK government has to hide on the matter, the Minister the probe is on and we will ensure that the culprit gets stringent punishment...////...
