Shillong, Mar 22 (Reporter) The BJP on Friday decided to extend support to the candidates of its ally National People’s Party (NPP) for both the Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya and not file its own candidates for the coming general elections.
The NPP is a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre and also part of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).
“As per the instructions of the National President of @BJP4India, Shri @JPNadda ji, I am pleased to inform that BJP will extend its support to Lok Sabha Candidates of NPP in both the seats of Meghalaya (Shillong and Tura), to NPF in the Outer Manipur Constituency and to NDPP in Nagaland in the ensuing Parliamentary elections 2024,” BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra noted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Meghalaya has two Lok Sabha seats, for which the NPP, a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has already fielded candidates.
While NPP candidate and state Health and Family Welfare minister, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh filed her nomination papers on Friday for contesting for the Shillong parliamentary seat, sitting MP from Tura, Agatha Sangma of the NPP, who is also youngest sister of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, is expected to file her nomination papers soon to seek re-election from the Tura parliamentary seat for the fourth consecutive term.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Sangma who is also NPP national president announced that his NPP would not field any candidate in the two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh and support the BJP candidates, Union Minister for Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju for the Arunachal West Lok Sabha seat and Tapir Gao as its candidate for the Arunachal East Lok Sabha seat...////...
