Mangaluru, Oct 24 (Reporter) In a significant political victory, BJP candidate Kishore Kumar Puttur has clinched the bye-election for the Karnataka Legislative Council from the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Local Authorities Constituency.
Kishore emerged victorious by a margin exceeding 1,600 votes.
The byelection, conducted on October 21, recorded an impressive voter turnout of 97.91%. Out of 6,032 registered voters, 5,906 cast their ballots, underscoring robust civic engagement in the electoral process.
Kishore Kumar Puttur, currently serving as the General Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada BJP unit, has previously held the position of Vice President of the State BJP Yuva Morcha from 2014 to 2016. His political roots run deep, with involvement in the RSS in Puttur.
This byelection became necessary following the elevation of BJP leader Kota Srinivas Poojary to the Lok Sabha as the MP of the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency. Kishore faced competition from candidates including Raju Poojary of the Congress, Anwar Sadath S from the SDPI, and independent candidate Dinakar Ullal.
The constituency, which encompasses both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, saw a diverse electorate comprising members from gram panchayats, city municipal councils, and various local governing bodies.
Vote counting commenced at 8 am, starting with the total number of ballots, followed by the classification of valid and invalid votes. The final tally revealed Kishore’s triumph through a preferential voting system.
