Bommai blasts Karnataka Pollution Board for targeting Yatnal's sugar factory

Bengaluru, Aug 28 (Reporter) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai has accused the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) of targeting MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal’s sugar factory as part of a political maneuver to undermine him. Addressing the media following a protest led by Yatnal against the KSPCB's alleged injustice on Wednesday, Bommai rapped the state for failing in law and justice, accusing it of engaging in politics of hatred. He claimed that although Yatnal's sugar factory was established legally, the KSPCB denied it permission last year. After Yatnal challenged the decision in court, the judiciary mandated that the factory be reopened within four weeks. However, Bommai contended that the Board continues to delay the reopening by citing technical reasons, suggesting that this is an attempt to politically eliminate Yatnal. Bommai further alleged that the KSPCB is demonstrating clear bias by approving permits for other sugar factories while discriminating against Yatnal’s. He pointed out that some factories granted permission by the KSPCB have violated regulations. Bommai vowed to continue fighting the issue, emphasising that thousands of farmers rely on Yatnal's factory and that a significant amount of sugarcane has been cultivated in the region this year.
