Kolkata, Jan31 (Reporter) After his impressive show with the ball, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal now delivered with the bat, slamming his maiden first-class century to put Bengal in a commanding position at the end of the second day in their Ranji Trophy match against Punjab at the Eden Gardens here on Friday.
The right-arm fast bowler, who bagged 4 for 68 in the first innings, smashed a superb 111 off 185 balls with 14 boundaries and 4 sixes. The 25-year-old brought up his ton after striking three sixes in four balls.
“When I got the opportunity to bat, I said to myself that this was a golden chance to make an impact.
I was confident of taking on the bowlers and scoring. I am happy to contribute for my team,” Suraj said after the day’s play.
Earlier, after bowling out Punjab for 191, Bengal posted 343 in their first innings to bag a vital lead.
After Sumanta Gupta (55) and Abishek Porel (52), Md Kaif (27) also chipped in with handy runs at
the end.
Suraj and Kaif added a much-needed 63 runs for the ninth wicket to take team past 300.
At stumps on Day 2, Punjab were 64/3 in their second innings, still trailing by 88 runs. Sumit
