Hyderabad, Dec 18 (Reporter) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs and MLCs staged a unique protest on Wednesday by travelling in autorickshaws from the MLA Quarters to the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
The rally aimed to press for the immediate implementation of promises made to the state's 8 lakh auto drivers during the Congress party's election campaign.
Speaking to the media, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) criticised the state government for neglecting its commitments to auto drivers.
He pointed to the distressing statistic of 93 suicides among auto drivers in Telangana, attributing these tragedies to government apathy.
KTR emphasised the urgent need for financial aid of Rs 12,000 to be disbursed to auto drivers, as previously promised.
He also called for the establishment of a welfare board for the community without further delay.
Additionally, he urged the government to provide immediate support and compensation to the families of auto drivers who had died by suicide.
Expressing frustration, KTR accused the Congress government of making unfulfilled election promises to auto drivers and using them solely for political gains.
"The government's indifference, despite repeated reminders in previous Assembly sessions, is nothing short of unacceptable," he said.
In a show of solidarity, BRS legislators wore auto driver uniforms and travelled to the Assembly in autorickshaws, symbolising their support for the struggling community.
KTR assured the auto drivers that the BRS would continue to advocate for their rights and ensure that no more lives were lost to desperation.
The protest has garnered significant public attention, with the BRS reaffirming its dedication to standing by auto drivers until all their demands are met...////...
