Shillong, Sept 5 (Reporter) The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday held a Sector Commander-level coordination meeting near Barsora land customs station in Bangladesh with the aim to strengthen bilateral relations, ensure better coordination, and address various border-related issues.
Thursday’s meeting is the first Sector Commander level held after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government last month and amid political turmoil, raising concerns over military cooperation and border security between the two neighbouring countries.
Bangladesh’s interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus had directed the BGB to take a stronger stance at the border with India and not to retreat from their responsibilities.
However, BSF officials said that the Sector Commander-level coordination meeting was “meaningful and cordial discussions” held between the two border forces, which reflect friendly bilateral relationships between the two countries.
The BSF delegation was led by Sector HQ BSF Shillong, Deputy Inspector General, Manoj Kumar Barnwal, while Md. Saiful Islam Chowdhury, Deputy Director General, Sector Commander BGB, Sylhet, Bangladesh, led the BGB delegation.
During the meeting, the commanders of both the border guarding forces discussed various border-related issues, such as a coordinated border management plan and other matters of mutual interest.
The commanders reiterated their commitment to fostering a secure and peaceful border environment and praised the ongoing efforts of their respective forces in maintaining tranquillity in the region.
“The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties agreeing to hold regular coordination meetings in the future to ensure continued cooperation and the smooth functioning of border management operations,” a BSF official said...////...
