Chennai, July 5 (Reporter) In a shocking incident, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu
Unit Chief Armstrong was hacked to death right in front of his house in Chennai on
Friday night.
Fiftytwo-year-old Armstrong was talking with his party workers in front his house at
Perambur in North Chennai, when a six-member motorcycle borne gang attacked him
with deadly weapons at around 1930 hrs.
A lawyer by profession, Mr Armstrong, who assumed the post in 2007, suffered multiple
cut injuries and fell in a pool of blood. He was rushed to Apollo Hospitals, were he was
declared brought dead at around 2045 hrs.
Hospital sources told UNI tonight that Mr Armstrong was brought dead.
His body was later shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH)
for post mortem after which it would be handed over to his family members.
As the news spread, scores of BSP cadres assembled in front of the hospital and police
have strengthened the security to avoid any backlash.
Security was also tightened at the RGGGH where BSP cadres have gathered in large
numbers and shouted slogans denouncing the killing and demanded the arrest of the
culprits.
Police have formed special teams head by an IG to nab the culprits and are verifying
the CCTV footages in the locality.
Meanwhile, AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi
K Palaniswami and other leaders condemned the killing and demanded that all the
culprits should be arrested immediately.
He said it was shocking that a State Unit President of a National President was
murdered in the city. "What to say about the prevailing law and order situation
under the ruling DMK".
While demanding the arrest of all those involved in it, he also urged the police to
ensure that his last rites were performed peacefully.
