Guwahati, Mar 14 (Reporter) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Thursday that the effect of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be completely insignificant in Assam. Addressing a press conference in Dispur, Sarma stated that the centre will grant citizenship, emphasising that the state government has no jurisdiction on the matter. He reiterated that the law about citizenship falls under the authority of the federal government, and said the law is unequivocally clear on this. He claimed that only a very small number of illegal Bangladeshi Hindus would apply in Assam.
