Kolkata July 16 (Reporter) Calcutta High Court on Tuesday restrained West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from making any defamatory or incorrect statement against Governor CV Ananda Bose.Justice Krishna Rao's order came after the single bench heard the arguments from the plaintiff and the defendants and reserved the order until Tuesday.
Governor Ananda Bose had moved a defamation suit against Banerjee, two newly-elected TMC MLAs Sayantika Banerjee and Reyat Hossain Sarkar and party leader Kunal Ghosh on June 28 and sought an interim order restraining them from issuing any defamatory or incorrect statements against him.
Banerjee on Monday firmly stood by her statement that women had expressed fear about visiting the Raj Bhavan, opposing Bose's plea for the interim order.
However, the HC in its order restrained the Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Banerjee from making any defamatory or incorrect statement against Bose.
On May 2, a contractual woman employee of Raj Bhavan made an allegation of molestation against Bose, following which the Kolkata Police started an inquiry.
The matter will come up again on August 14...////...
