Kolkata, Sep 5 (Reporter) The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a report with regard to the "objectional posts" appearing on social media with regard to the PG trainee doctor who was raped and murdered in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
A Division bench comprising Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya told the CBI to submit its report by September 18 and asked the agency counsel Additional Solicitor General Asok Kumar Chakraborty to find ways and means so that the Centre can block those detestable posts in the social media with the picture of the victim.
The HC order came after hearing a PIL (public interest petition) seeking judicial intervention so that the CBI's cyber cell could stop those objectionable posts in the social media.
"Let the CBI find if something can be done. There are some very nasty social media posts written under the picture of the victim. We will ask the ASG to serve the copies of the plea. The CBI can examine it. We will list the matter on 18th September." the bench said.
The CBI counsel told the court that the investigating agency, despite being entrusted to probe the murder, has no separate cyber cell and said the state police be directed to submit a report on the issue...////...
