Kolkata, July 10 (Reporter) Calcutta High Court on Wednesday said it
will hear a plea on July 15 seeking an interim order by Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose in a defamation case filed by him against state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and some other Trinamool Congress leaders over alleged comments made by her late last month, court sources said.
After hearing an application from the Governor, high court
judge Justice Krishna Rao granted leave for the defamation complaint to be registered before his court.
The judge also directed that the Governor's application for an interim order, for a direction upon the chief minister and the others not to make any further comment on the issue under contention, will be taken up for hearing on Monday July 15.
Justice Rao also directed Bose’s lawyer to serve copies of the
application to the defendants in the suit in the meantime.
Governor CV Ananda Bose filed the defamation case against Mamata Banerjee on June 28, a day after she allegedly claimed women complained to her that they were afraid to visit the Raj Bhavan or governor house.
On May 2, a contractual woman employee of Raj Bhavan had made an allegation of molestation against Bose, following which the Kolkata Police started an inquiry.
However, under Article 361 of the Indian Constitution, no criminal
proceedings can be instituted against a governor during his/her term in office...////...
