Patna, Nov 11 (Reporter) The campaigning for the by-elections for four assembly constituencies came to an end on Monday evening in Bihar where polling is slated for November 13.
The assembly seats where campaigning ended are Tarari, Ramgarh, Belaganj and Imamganj ( reserved).
National Democratic Alliance ( NDA), Grand Alliance ( GA), and Jan Suraj of Prashant Kishor were prominently contesting the by-elections being considered as the semifinal for the general Assembly elections due next year in Bihar.
Of the four assembly constituencies Tarari, Ramgarh, and Belaganj were with the Grand Alliance ( GA) whereas Imamganj reserved was with HAM, a constituent unit of NDA. Tarari seat belonged to the CPIML while Ramgarh and Belaganj were with the RJD.
With the presence of Jan Suaraj of Prashant Kishore popular as PK, the electoral battle in all four assembly constituencies undergoing by-elections has turned out to be interesting. PK who floated his party on October 2 this year was campaigning hectically and was making stinging attacks on the opponents by raising various issues including unemployment, lack of development, inadequate Medical Services, educational scenario, and poverty. To woo the Muslim voters, PK has also blamed the opposition especially Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for backstabbing and for betraying the Muslim community.
Despite his ill health, the RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and leader of the opposition in the state assembly Tejaswi Prasad Yadav campaigned in favour of GA candidates, and during the entire campaign Yadav accused the state government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of not generating employment opportunities for the youth. Apart from this, Yadav also accused Kumar of failing to maintain the law and order condition within the state for which he continuously highlighted incidents of various crimes.
The senior leaders of NDA and several Ministers in Bihar Government including Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha Samrat Chaudhary Minister Vijay Chaudhary and others campaigned in favour of NDA candidates.
Together 38 candidates including 10 in Terari, 5 in Ramgarh, 9 in Imamganj and 14 in Belaganj were contesting by elections.
In the Tarari assembly seat the CPIML candidate Raju Yadav was contesting whereas BJP has fielded Vishal Prashant son of a heavyweight politician and former several-term MLA Narendra Kumar Pandey alias Sunil Pandey. Sudama Prasad, the current MP from Arrah had won two times from this seat. Yadav's main challenger is BJP candidate Vishal Prashant.
Kiran Singh of Jan Suraj was also trying her luck from the seat. The Jan Suraj had fielded former Vice Chief of Army Lt Gen Shri Krishna Singh, who had to pull out because of technical reasons.
Interestingly, an Independent candidate named Raju Yadav who also entered the fray has generated confusion for the CPI(ML) candidate.
In Belaganj Vishwanath Kumar Singh, son of a senior RJD leader Surendra Prasad Yadav, an 8 term MLA from the seat whose election to the Lok Sabha from Jehanabad has necessitated the by-election was in the fray. JDU has fielded former MLC Manorama Devi who is the main rival of the RJD candidate. Mohammed Amjad was in the electoral battle from Jan Suraj and Mohammed Jamid Ali Hassan was contesting as an AIMIM candidate. Belaganj has the highest number of 14 candidates.
Ramgarh Assembly Constituency has the lowest number of five candidates. Ajit Kumar Singh, the youngest son of RJD State President Jagadanand Singh has thrown his hats as an RJD candidate in the political battle and hopes to retain the seat that fell vacant upon the election of his elder brother Sudhakar to the Lok Sabha from Buxar. The BJP has expressed its confidence in former MLA Ashok Kumar Singh who had won the seat in 2015 but finished in the third in 2020 elections. Sunil Kumar Singh is in the fray as Jana Suraj candidate. Singh was the runner-up in 2020 as BSP candidate.
In Imamganj reserved Assembly Constituency from where Union Minister and former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, founder of HAM was elected in 2015 and 2020 has fielded his daughter-in-law, Deepa Manjhi, wife of his son Santosh Kumar Suman who is the minister in Bihar Government. RJD has fielded Roshan Kumar. Jan Suraj is banking upon Jitendra Paswan and AIMIM has fielded Kanchan Paswan from this seat. The NDA's bid to retain the seat, falling vacant upon Manjhi's election from the Gaya Lok Sabha seat, faces the main challenge from RJD's Raushan Manjhi, a former member of Zila Parishad.
However, the presence of Kanchan Paswan and Jitendra Paswan has turned the battle into a multi-cornered contest in the seat.
The by-election has been necessitated in all these four assembly constituencies as the representatives were elected to the Lok Sabha during parliamentary elections held this year
The Ramgarh legislator Sudhakar Singh of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was elected as party MP from Buxar in last Parliamentary election while Tarari MLA Sudama Prasad from Communist Party of India (Marxists-Leninist) won the last Lok Sabha election from Ara (Bhojpur) seat. RJD leader and party MLA from Belaganj Surendra Prasad Yadav was elected party MP from the Jehanabad seat while Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi, an MLA from Imamganj bagged the Gaya (reserved) seat in last Parliamentary elections.
The polling in all four constituencies will be held on November 13 and the counting of votes will be done on November 23...////...
