Kolkata, Sep 2 (Reporter) The anti-corruption unit of CBI on Monday arrested the former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh in connection with an alleged financial scam in the colonial-era hospital, official sources said.Ghosh has been under sustained interrogation for the past fortnight since the CBI was handed over the August 9 alleged rape-murder of a woman post-graduate trainee doctor. Later, the federal probe agency was again given the charge of probing the alleged financial scam in the medical college and hospital by a separate order from Calcutta High Court. Ghosh during the day was brought from the CGO Complex in Salt Lake to the CBI office in the CGO premises at Nizam Palace, where he was arrested, sources said. They said the federal agency arrested Ghosh for his involvement in alleged financial irregularities. The CBI sleuths had also searched his Beliaghata house . The Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to probe the alleged financial scam under the administration of Ghosh from 2021 to 2024. . Former RG Kar Deputy Superintendent Akhtar Ali had filed a PIL in the court regarding the alleged corruption, including selling medical wastes. Senior medic Subarna Goswami, who is also spearheading the doctors\\\\ protest, alleged the motive of the lady medic's murder stemmed from the information she had or what she had seen concerning many irregularities in the hospital, He claimed that she was murdered to silence her. Ghosh, after being questioned by the CBI for over nine hours at the CGO on Monday, was escorted by the CBI officials at Nizam Palace- tonight. TheCentral armed forces were deployed around the office in the heart of the city, sources said. Ghosh was quizzed for the past 15 days, and it had become almost routine for him to present himself before the CBI sleuths in the morning. He would return home after 10 pm. Meanwhile, the cease work by junior medics from the government hospitals entered the 24th day on Monday since the rape and murder incident.
