CBI dismantles major cybercrime network, arrests 26 key accused

Hyderabad/New Delhi, Sep 30 (Reporter) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has dismantled a major transnational cybercrime network by arresting 26 key operatives and conducting raids at 32 locations in Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Visakhapatnam. The operation, part of the ongoing Operation Chakra-III, targeted a highly organized cybercrime group involved in global fraud, a CBI statement said on Monday. The CBI’s International Operations Division registered the case on September 24, 2024, and launched a coordinated multi-city raid on September 26, resulting in the interception of 170 individuals engaged in illegal activities at four call centers. The call centers operated under the names M/s V C Informetrix Private Limited in Pune and Visakhapatnam, M/s Viajex Solutions in Hyderabad, and M/s Atriya Global Services Private Limited in Visakhapatnam. The cybercriminals impersonated tech support representatives, targeting primarily US citizens by misleading them into believing their systems were hacked and funds were at risk. The victims were coerced into transferring money into new bank accounts provided by the fraudsters or through international gift cards and cryptocurrency. The operation led to the seizure of 951 items, including electronic devices, communication records, and financial information, along with Rs 58.45 lakh in cash, locker keys, and three luxury vehicles...////...
