Kolkata, Aug 26 (Reporter) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday continued the questioning of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s ousted principal Sandip Ghosh even as the protest by junior medics in West Bengal government-owned hospitals entered its 18th day over their demand for justice in the case of alleged rape and murder of a lady doctor in the institution and security at work place.
Gosh’s grilling at the CBI office came a day after the anti-corruption wing of the federal
agency searched his Beliaghata house and quizzed him for nearly 11 hours in relation to alleged financial irregularities at the hospital since 2021. Till now the CBI has quizzed him over for 100 hours in the past 10 days.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Roy, the arrested prime accused in the murder case, claimed innocence during the polygraph test on Sunday and reportedly said that the lady medic was already dead when he reached the third floor of the chest department where the victim had gone to rest on the night of August 8 after 36 hours of duty.
The CBI has so far completed lie detection tests on six others, including Sandip Ghosh.
On Monday, another accused Debashish Shome, a demonstrator at the forensic department of the hospital, appeared for the second day at Nizam Palace office of the CBI in the murder case.
Shome’s house at Kestopur in North 24 Parganas was searched by the anti-corruption unit of the federal agency a day earlier.
The CBI is simultaneously investigating the murder and financial lapses in the hospital on the orders of Calcutta High Court which received petitions saying the two crimes were linked.
RGKH's former medical superintendent (non-medical) Akhtar Ali had moved a Public Interest Litigation and sought a Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into the matter since money laundering
was allegedly involved in the financial scam under Ghosh at the hospital.
The striking medics have called a mass convention at the Calcutta Medical
College and Hospital in central Kolkata to decide on the future course of action...////...
