Hyderabad, Jun 30 (Reporter) Union Coal and Mines Minister, G Kishan Reddy, on Sunday called for abolition of outdated ideas and laws rooted in slavery.
Speaking at a workshop on New Criminal Major Acts, organised by the Forum for Nationalist Thinkers at Sardar Patel auditorium, Narayanaguda, he said, "After I won as an MP in 2019, many lawyers met me and explained the need to change the IPC and CrPC."
Reddy, who worked with Amit Shah in the Union Home Ministry as MoS in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet, said he has worked on many aspects related to the IPC and CrPC.
"Slavery ideas and slavery laws should be changed. After independence of many countries, there have been changes in many matters related to those countries. For example, in our country, Bombay was changed to Mumbai, Calcutta to Kolkata, and Madras to Chennai. If the BJP changes something, they oppose it," he said and questioned, "Is it good for society and the country when there are so many changes? Is it useful for people?"
"The evil idea of blindly opposing without even thinking about it continues in our country. It is not good for anyone," he observed.
Reddy emphasised that current laws are made for everyone, not just one person or one religion, and are intended to bring change in the country.
"There are still some laws that need to be changed in Parliament and the Lok Sabha. We are still following British laws. Why should we continue to follow their laws? Do we have no idea, no power to make our own laws? Even after 75 years, should our country continue with the idea of slavery?," he asked.
He assured that PM Modi would continue to do good work for the country, despite opposition.
"For example, opposite Rashtrapati Bhavan there is a road called Raj Path. Where are the kings still in the country? If there were statues of some British people at India Gate, we removed them and unveiled the statue of Subhash Chandra Bose. It was also blindly opposed by some. They have made it their mission to oppose any good deed," he said.
Reddy highlighted the need to change the IPC and CrPC in the country according to its needs, increasing technology and rising crime rates.
"We need to change the laws to make the country better for the new generation and the youth. Many changes are coming in the countries of the world. We need to embrace such change," he asserted.
He mentioned that in 2020, the Modi government started to change the laws.
"Many universities, vice-chancellors, Bar Association representatives, judges, IAS, IPS officers, and thousands of people were polled. A committee was formed, and as per the suggestions of that committee, we again changed the IPC and CrPC laws," the Minister pointed.
He noted that acts such as Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Abhaya Adhiniyam and Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita were brought as part of this process. "We have to respect the laws we have made."
Reddy pointed out that even during the demonetisation, the opposition raised concerns.
"We have damaged the activities of Pakistan and ISI, which gave impetus to terrorism in the country. We have brought the country to a peaceful environment," he mentioned.
He also cited initiatives like triple talaq, GST, Article 370, the New Education Policy, and Agnipath as being introduced in the interest of the country.
"It will do good. It was to be observed and not opposed," Reddy said.
"It is Modi's policy that no matter how many people oppose any work for the sake of the country, it is Modi's policy," he added...////...
