CISF takes charge of security at RG Kar hospital in Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 22 (Reporter) Two days after the Order of the Supreme Court, the CISF on Thursday took charge of the security inside the West Bengal government owned RG Kar Medical College & Hospital here. Two companies of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) comprising some 150 personnel, including sufficinent woman officers and jawans under the supervision of a Commander have taken the position in the trouble premium medical facilities after some 7000 mob attacked the hospital premises and vandalised property in front of Kolkata Police in the early hours on Independence Day. The medics of the hospital have been on a cease work since August 9 to protest the alleged rape and murder of their 31-year-old lady colleague in her working place on 3rd floor of the chest department's seminar hall. She was resting for the night after completing 36 hours duty at a stretch and her body with marks of injuries was found around 1030 hours on August 15. The apex court took serious concern of vandalism, which went on for 40 minutes and some miscreants went on rampage and destroyed costly medical equipment of medical gadgets and CCTV cameras and server room in the ground floor of the building. Sources said the CISF would guard 26 locations inside the premises, including that of resident doctors hostels round the clock. The security system outside the hospital would be manned by the Kolkata Police. CISF DIG, Kumar Pratap Singh, after a preliminary survey in and around the hospital, held talks with the Kolkata Police at Lalbazar on Wednesday, and he inspected again the hospital before deployment of the CISF personnel.
