Bhubaneswar, Jan 20 (Reporter) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed the establishment of 20 additional cyber police stations to ensure functional cyber police stations in all districts of the state, aiming to control the rising cyber crime.
Official sources reported that approximately 2,633 cybercrime cases were registered in the state in 2024. Currently, 14 cyber police stations are operational to address these crimes. With the addition of 20 new stations, each district in the state will have a functional cyber police station.
The decision to establish more cyber police stations was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on Sunday night, where he reviewed the law and order situation in the state.
The meeting focused on addressing the key challenges faced by the Odisha Police, including reducing road accidents, combating cybercrime, and preventing ganja cultivation.
Discussions revealed that 2,198 traffic police officers are currently working across the state. The Chief Minister directed the creation of 2,000 additional posts for traffic management this year to enhance road safety and emphasised that the recruitment process should be conducted with complete transparency.
Majhi instructed the Police Commissioner to strengthen the night patrolling and checking systems in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, while also extending similar measures to other urban areas across the state. Additionally, he urged the Director General of Police to prioritise security measures in Maoist-affected districts.
The Chief Minister commended the successful efforts of the State Police in managing major events such as cyclone relief operations, the DG and IG conference, Navy Day in Puri, and the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Bhubaneswar. He assured that the police department would be further reinforced by filling various vacant posts in the coming days.
