Coal pilferage scandal prime accused Anup Majhi surrenders

Asansol (WB), May 14 (Reporter) The alleged mastermind of illegal coal mining and theft in West Bengal, Anup Majhi alias Lala, on Tuesday surrendered before the CBI Special Court in Asansol after months of remaining underground, official sources here said. Sources said Majhi on Tuesday morning gave himself up before the special court in West Bardhaman, which had directed the probing authorities (Central Bureau of Investigation) to file all relevant documents to all the parties by May 21. The Supreme Court earlier in an order had asked the CBI not to take any coercive action against the prime accused and told him to surrender before the designated court (Asansol). Sources said accordingly Majhi on Tuesday surrendered and got a conditional bail hours later. Court sources said Anup Majhi was on Tuesday granted a conditional bail, which prevented him from leaving the area where he lives and to cooperate with the federal agency whenever he is summoned for the ongoing investigation.
