Bengaluru, May 16 (Reporter) Ahead of the biennial election to six seats of the Karnataka Legislative Council, political maneuvering and challenges within coalitions have come to the fore. In Mysuru, leaders from the BJP and JDS convened a crucial meeting, underscoring the strategic alliances shaping the political landscape. A total of 103 candidates, including three women, have filed 156 sets of nominations for the June 3 election. Notably, the nominations reflect the diverse political spectrum, with six candidates from the Congress, five from the BJP, and two from the JDS, highlighting the competitive nature of the upcoming polls. The BJP faces internal strife as disgruntled ticket aspirants present a challenge. In efforts to appease dissent, party leaders are engaged in discussions with EC Ningaraju, a nominee for the South Teachers’ Constituency, contemplating withdrawal in favor of the JDS. Former BJP MLA K Raghupathi Bhat's defiance is emblematic of the internal discord within the BJP, as he filed his nomination papers from the South West Graduates’ Constituency. Similarly, former MLC and JDS leader KT Srikanrte Gowda explored the possibility of contesting as an Independent, signaling discontent within his party ranks. With the scrutiny of nominations slated for Friday and the deadline for withdrawal set for May 20, political dynamics are set to intensify.
