Coastal cleanliness to give shape to concept of 'Swachh Bharat, Mahan Bharat': Maha Governor

Mumbai, Sep 21 (Reporter) Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan observed on Saturday that just as every big task starts with small things, the initiative of coastal cleanliness will give shape to the concept of 'Swachh Bharat, Mahan Bharat'. Speaking on occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day organised to raise public awareness about the cleanliness of the seashore during a beach cleaning programme at Juhu beach area of the city, he said that the state will fully support the central government's campaign to stop the use of single-use plastic. The Governor expressed satisfaction over significant presence of students for the cleanliness campaign, saying that the awareness among youths about cleanliness is a positive thing. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan across the country. In the state too, the fortnight of 'Cleanliness is Service' has been launched recently and this campaign is being implemented at 4,500 places in the state, he said. "The state is blessed with many beaches of natural beauty. Tourists from all over the world also prefer clean beaches. It is everyone's responsibility to keep these beaches clean," he said. He further said that the cleaning campaign, being implemented in Mumbai, will continue regularly after the monsoon season. "Since Mumbai is an international standard city, let us keep this city and its beaches clean with the joint participation of all the government agencies, social organisations and citizens," he made an appeal. On this occasion, the Chief Minister administered an oath of cleanliness to the attendees. Union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that awareness campaign is being implemented worldwide for the cleanliness of beaches. Swachhta fortnight is being implemented in the country, he said and appealed all to work together to make Swachh Bharat as per the concept of mission life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
