Mumbai, Jan 25 (Reporter) National President of Mahila Congress and AICC spokesperson Alka Lamba on Thursday said 33 percent women's reservation will be implemented once Congress comes to power at the centre. Lamba Is touring Maharashtra for three days from Thursday. While interacting with media persons at Tilak Bhavan here she said Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's visionary leadership increased women's participation in politics by providing 33 percent reservation for women in Panchayat Raj. Congress has been continuously trying to increase the participation of women in politics and took the historic step by fielding 40 percent of women candidates in the last Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Even though it took 10 years for the BJP government at the centre to decide on women's reservation, it has not yet been implemented, she said. She said a detailed discussion will be held during these three days regarding the strengthening of the state's Mahila Congress organisation, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Mahila Congress is focusing on getting the maximum seats out of the total 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra. She said women's representation in elected bodies has increased after they got 33 percent reservation in Panchayati Raj institutions. Now Mahila Congress is emphasising that women's representation should be increased in Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha also. The oppressors of women are moving freely only in the states ruled by the BJP, which was simultaneously shouting 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is alleged to have sexually assaulted women athletes, is still at large. Although it has been 6 months since the case was filed, no action has been taken. She alleged that a female student was sexually assaulted in the prime minister's constituency Varanasi by some "criminals" who participated in BJP's campaign for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls. The action was taken only after a public outcry. She alleged that tribal women were gang raped in Manipur, which was burning for eight months but the PM is neither talking about Manipur nor going there. She claimed 10 lakh women have gone missing across the country in the last two years, with Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh having the highest number of missing women. "Where did these women go? This is a serious question," said Lamba...////...
