Hyderabad, June 7 (Reporter) The counting of votes polled in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda graduate MLC by-election held on May 27 continues on Friday.
The counting has been taking place in four halls of the A Duppalapalli State Warehousing Corporation warehouse in the suburbs of Nalgonda town since 0800 hours on Wednesday and is ongoing as of Friday.
The counting of first-preference votes for four rounds was completed on Thursday night. Congress candidate Teenmar Mallanna received 1,22,813 votes, while the nearest BRS candidate, Enugu Rakesh Reddy, secured 1,04,248 votes. BJP candidate Gujjula Premender Reddy stood in third place with 43,313 votes. As per the rules, since no candidate secured more than 50 percent of the votes, the second-preference votes are now being counted. The result is likely to be announced by noon today.
A total of 52 candidates, including Enugu Rakesh Reddy from BRS, Teenmar Mallanna from Congress, and Gujjula Premender Reddy from the BJP, are contesting this election. Voters from the constituency, which spans 34 assembly constituencies, cast their ballots at 605 polling booths.
