Cyclone to form in 6 hrs, to make landfall tomorrow, TN on high alert

Chennai, Nov 29 (Reporter) Yesterday’s Deep Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal will intensify into a Cyclonic Storm Fengal in the next six hours and will make a landfall tomorrow afternoon, even as the Tamil Nadu government has placed its entire machinery on high alert. As met office has forecast very heavy rains in Chennai and adjoining districts and also in Cauvery delta and other districts, the Tamil Nadu government is bracing itself to meet the situation and has put in place all precautionary measures in these districts, including opening of more than 2,000 relief camp with basic amenities and medical facilities and deployment of NDRF and SDRF teams. In a latest update as Orange message, Met office on Friday said the Deep Depression over the Bay moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 8 kmph during the past 6 hrs. It lay centred over the same region about 270 km north-northeast of Trincomalee, 300 km east of Nagapattinam, 340 km east-southeast of Puducherry and 380 km southeast of Chennai. It is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during the next six hrs. Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry as a Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph and gusting to 90 kmph tomorrow afternoon. Under its influence light to moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu (at many places over Coastal Tamilnadu and at one or two places over Interior Tamilnadu), Puducherry and Karaikal area. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain at one or two places is likely to occur over Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam districts, Puducherry and Karaikal area, where a Red Alert was issued by the Met office. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ariyalur, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts, where an Orange alert was issued. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts...////...
