Chennai, Dec 28 (Reporter) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin on Saturday
evening slammed the BJP Government at the Centre for refusing a befitting site for the funeral
of two-time Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, whose leadership transformed India's economy
and lifted millions out of poverty, as requested by his family, showed reeks of arrogance.
The denial of a befitting site for his funeral was a direct insult to his towering legacy and the Sikh
community.
Relegating a two-term Prime Minister to Nigambodh Ghat reeks of arrogance, bias and a deliberate
attempt to erase his immense contributions from public memory.
Disrespecting a statesman of his stature is to disrespect India’s progress itself and the stain of
dishonouring great leaders never fades from history, Mr Stalin said.
In a strongly worded post on X, the Chief Minister said "The BJP government’s decision to deny
Dr. #ManmohanSingh’s family the right to perform his last rites at a befitting site for his memorial
is a direct insult to his towering legacy and the Sikh community."
"Refusing the family’s request and relegating a two-term Prime Minister to Nigambodh Ghat reeks
of arrogance, bias and a deliberate attempt to erase his immense contributions from public memory",
he wrote.
"Dr. Manmohan Singh’s leadership transformed India’s economy and lifted millions out of poverty",
Mr Stalin said.
