Bengaluru, June 9 (Reporter) In a letter written to Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi just before the swearing-in ceremony of the union cabinet in Delhi Sunday, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda did not shy away from condemning what he termed as the Congress party's attempts to undermine democratic institutions.
He accused the party of orchestrating a campaign to discredit democratic processes, labelling their actions as detrimental to the country's democratic fabric. "The results also expose the ugly campaign of the Congress party to discredit our institutions and democratic processes. The people of India will teach their arrogance and negativity a big lesson," he said.
Highlighting specific instances, Deve Gowda pointed out the Congress party's lacklustre performance in states under their administration, such as Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh. He contrasted this with their relative success in other states, attributing these victories to their alliances rather than inherent popularity.
"The Congress party assumes they have done better this time, but the fact is that in states they run, like Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh, they have floundered. They have done relatively well in some other states because of the courtesy of their allies. Let us see how long their allies will tolerate them," he stated.
Offering his insights on the recently concluded general elections, Deve Gowda described the results as intriguing reflections of the vibrancy of Indian democracy. In his analysis, Gowda praised the democratic spirit displayed through the electoral process, affirming his belief in the strength of the nation's democratic institutions.
"The elections have thrown up interesting results. It proves the vibrancy of Indian democracy. It has proved that you are a true democrat," he said.
Expressing regret over his inability to attend the swearing-in ceremony in person due to health reasons, Deve Gowda reiterated his party's support to the NDA government and pledged to work collaboratively with Modi's administration.
He concluded by thanking Modi for extending a cabinet position to his party, promising full commitment to serving the coalition and the people of India...////...
