Devotees converge at Jyotirlinga temples to celebrate MahaShivaratri

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mar 8 (Reporter) Mahashivratri festival in Marathwada region of Maharashtra state, involving eight districts, is being celebrated with religious fervour and sacred offerings to Lord Shiva on Friday. Fasting devotees gathered in large numbers at the Shiva Temple in Chhatrapati Sambhaijnagar, located in Khadkeshwar locality. Women devotees have been performing poojas, also known as bael leaves, following prescribed rituals since early morning on Friday. Thousands of people have thronged towards the Grishneshwar temple since the early hours of today in Verul town, about 35 km away from this district located barely a kilometre away from the Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Grishneshwar temple holds extreme religious significance as it is one of twelve Jyotirlinga temples in India. A large number of devotees converged at the other two Jyotirlinga temples—Parli Vaijnath and Aundha Nagnath which are located in the districts of Beed and Hingoli, respectively.
