Chennai, Feb 9 (Reporter) Leaders of the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA)
in Tamil Nadu on Sunday accused the BJP, RSS, VHP and other right wing organisations
of dividing the people on religious lines and pledged to uphold secularism and the unity
of the people.
In a joint statement, signed by DMK General Secretary and Water Resources Minister
Duraimurugan and 11 other alliance parties of the SPA, they said Tamil Nadu is one of
the best examples of India's pluralism and religious harmony.
This is evidenced by the fact that people of all religions worship at all the places of worship
in the State, including the Palaniandavar Temple at hilltop of Palani, one of the six abodes
of Lord Mururai, the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, the Annai Velankanni Temple,
the Nagore Dargah, and the Ervadi Dargah, they said.
Stating that in Tamil Nadu, some organizations are continuously making efforts to sow
religious differences and divide the people for political gains, they said it has become
a routine for the BJP and its affiliates, the RSS, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and
other right-wing organizations to systematically divide people on religious lines and seek
political gain from it.
"They are doing such divisive politics in the form of Babri Masjid and Ajmer Dargah and
their next target is Tamil Nadu", they charged.
Observing that in Tamil Nadu too, during the last AIADMK regime, small right-wing
organizations have started sprouting and growing with the support of the BJP, they
said those who had been suppressed for the last three years have started their
divisive politics with the election in mind.
"They are planning and staging conspiracies to disrupt the unity of Tamil Nadu in
order to reap the electoral gains of the BJP", the leaders charged, in their appeal
to the public in the joint statement...////...
