Chennai,Feb 8 (Reporter) The DMK has secured a massive victory in social reformer
Periyar E V Ramasamy's soil in the bypoll to the Erode East Assembly Constituency
on Saturday, Party President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said on
Saturday evening.
Address a DMK public meeting condemning the Centre for continuously neglecting
and boycotting Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget, Mr Stalin said all the candidates who
had contested against the DMK candidate V C Chandrakumar, who won by a margin
of more than 90,000 votes--the highest margin thus far in the five elections held since
the Constituency came into being in 2011-- have forfeited their deposits.
Mr Stalin commenced his address by sharing DMK's victory in the bypolls and said
"we have secured a massive victory in Periyar's soil. I am happy to share this important
and happy news that all the candidates who contested against the DMK have lost their
deposits", he added.
Later, in a statement, Mr Stalin said the Erode East bypoll victory is a testament to good
governance of the ruling DMK.
The winning candidate, V.C. Chandrakumar, who contested on behalf of the DMK-led
alliance has secured a resounding victory by securing more than 1.15 lakh votes, he
said and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the voters of Erode East who gave him
this resounding victory.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Tamil Nadu Congress Party and all the alliance
parties who worked for the success of the party in the bypoll.
This victory is a great recognition given by the people to the DMK and its coalition parties.
This government formed in 2021 with the support of the people, who had given their
recognition for the various welfare projects launched by it.
The Opposition parties, having realised that who will win the bypoll earlier, had ran away
from the contest.
The DMK alliance has achieved consecutive victories in all the two parliamentary elections
in 2019 and 2024, the assembly elections in 2021, the local body elections and the by-polls
held since 2019 and the main opposition AIADMK, suffered crushing defeats in all these polls.
The Chief Minister said Chandrakumar will serve as a model MLA who represents the people
of the constituency and fulfill the expectations of the people.
Meanwhile, AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswamy
said the DMK had casted the AIADMK's votes and was claiming that it had won by a massive
margin.
