Bengaluru, May 28 (Reporter) Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to seek input from senior party members in selecting candidates for the upcoming Legislative Council election. Dr Parameshwara emphasised the importance of collaborative decision-making during a press briefing on Tuesday. "They will have to ask for our suggestions," Parameshwara stated. "The CM and Dy CM, who also serves as the State Party President, hold responsible positions. It would be beneficial if they consulted the senior members of the party. Making decisions on their own would not be advisable, in my opinion," he added. This call for inclusiveness comes as Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar head to New Delhi to finalise the party's candidates for the elections. The Congress is aiming to secure a majority in the Karnataka Legislative Council by winning 13 of the 17 available seats in the upcoming June elections. The elections will see six MLC posts elected by teachers and graduates on June 3, and 11 MLC posts elected by MLAs on June 13. Currently, the 75-member Council includes 32 seats held by the BJP, 29 by Congress, seven by JDS, and one Independent member. Dr Parameshwara highlighted the need to choose candidates who have contributed significantly to the party and have strong community support. He also underscored the importance of considering caste and regional representation in the selection process. With over 100 applications submitted for the MLC positions, the final decision on candidates will be crucial in shaping the party's influence in the Upper House...////...
