Chennai, Jan 15 (Reporter) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday attached
two immovable properties worth Rs 100.92 crore of senior AIADMK leader and former
Minister R Vaithilingam, presently MLA, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money
Laundering At (PMLA), 2002.
In post on X, ED said "ED, Chennai Zonal Office has provisionally attached two immovable
properties worth Rs. 100.92 Crore (approx.) on January 9, 2025 under the provisions of the
PMLA, 2002 in connection with the case against R. Vaithilingam, MLA, former Minister for
Housing and Urban Development, Tamil Nadu."
Mr Vaithilingam is a loyalist of ousted AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam, also a three
time former Chief Minister, who was expelled from the party in 2022 after he raised a
banner after the present leader Edappadi K Palaniswami tried to take complete control
of the party and restored the unitary leadership to the days of former Party Supremo
late J Jayalalithaa.
Till then, the AIADMK has been functioning under the dual leadership after the party
split into two with the one headed by Palaniswami and the other by Panneerselvam
before they merged.
Thereafter differences surfaced and Panneerselvam, who is now said to be closed to
BJP, opposed the unitary leadership and favoured status quo (dual leadership) to be
continued leading to his sacking at the party's General Council meeting.
After the expulsion of Panneerselvam, Mr Vaithilingam threw his weight behind him and
was still with him as a staunch loyalist...////...
