Chennai, Jan 3 (Reporter) Officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted raids at the residences and other locations of Vellore DMK MP Kathir Anand, who is the son of ruling DMK General Secretary and Tamil Nadu Resources Minister Duraimurugan. Mr Kathir Anand and his family were not present at his residence at Katpadi when the searches were held. The ED officials were accompanied by CRPF personnel. Since there was no one in the house, they waited for close to two hours to proceed with the searches. Reports said raids were said to have been carried out in the family owned Kingston Engineering College and the houses of Kathir Anand’s associate and local party functionary 'Poonjolai' Srinivasan. Meanwhile, Mr Duraimurugan held a meeting with his lawyers at his Kotturpuram residence in Chennai. Later talking to reporters, he said he said no one was present at their residence at native Vellore district. He said he knew only as much as the media does about the raids. Emerging out of his house after consulting the advocates and heading to meet DMK President and Chief Minister M K Stalin at the State Secretariat, Mr Duraimurugan said “I know only as much as you (media) do". Meanwhile, during his meeting with the Chief Minister, Duraimurugan, who is the second in Party hierarchy, was believed to have apprised him of the details of the raids. A party strongman and a staunch loyalist of the DMK's first family, Duraimurugan and his son, Kathir Anand, were residing in the same house in Katpadi earlier. It may be recalled that the polls to Vellore Lok Sabha seat in 2019 was countermanded following alleged largescale money distribution. The Income Tax officials also seized Rs 11 crore from Poonjolai Seenivasan, who is a close associate of the Minister. However, when the elections were held later, Kathir Anand was elected from Vellore to the Lok Sabha for the first time and was re-elected for a second time in 2024.. Though the reason for today's raids was yet be known, reports said it could be in continuation of the investigation in the case pertaining to seizure of Rs 11 crore in 2019...////...
