ED raids in multiple locations linked to drug cartel

Chennai, Apr 9 (Reporter) Officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday conducted raids in multiple locations in Chennai and other places linked to the Rs 2,000 drug cartel, in which a former ruling DMK functionary and Tamil film producer Jaffer Sadiq, the mastermind in the racket, was arrested. Sources said the raids were on in nearly 25 locations, including at the residence and office premises of Sadiq and his associates. The raids were also conducted at the premises of filmmaker and actor Ameer whose name was linked to the drug cartel and was questioned by the Narcotics Control Bureuar (NCB) last week. After the NCB busted a drug cartel that smuggled narcotics to foreign countries worth Rs 2,000 crore in February under the guise of multi-grain mix and grated coconut, the officials, during investigations found that Sadiq was the kingpin in the racket. Though he went underground for nearly three weeks after three of his associates were arrested, the NCB officials finally arrested him at a hotel in Jaipur last month. In all five people have been arrested so far in connection with the drug cartel racket. Even as the NCB is conducting its probe into the scandal, the ED has now joined the investigations...////...
