Vijayawada, June 28 (Reporter) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Friday alleged that former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy "betrayed" the state by "causing destruction" to the Polavaram project, being constructed across the river Godavari.
The Chief Minister released a white paper on the Polavaram project during a media conference in his office at the State Secretariat.
Releasing the white paper on Polavaram during a power point presentation, the Chief Minister said because of the "imprudent decisions" of his predecessor, the diaphragm wall of Polavaram got completely damaged.
In fact, the very existence of the project is now in jeopardy because of Jagan Mohan Reddy's "incompetence and arrogance", Chandrababu added.
Explaining in detail how the water can be utilised through Polavaram project, the Chief Minister said the expert committee appointed by the NITI Agog too reported that the diaphragm wall was damaged due to the inefficiency of the YSRCP government.
Naidu said that the displaced people feel that if they leave their present places they will not get the compensation. "The neighbouring states like Odisha and Chhattisgarh had filed cases before the courts due to the failures of the previous government. Let us not take things easy," Naidu said.
"Ex-CM Jagan Mohan Reddy had ignored the suggestions made by the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) not to change the agencies and the funds released by the Centre for the construction of the project were diverted," the Chief Minister pointed out.
"During the TDP regime till 2019, 72 per cent of the project works were completed and the YSRCP government executed a mere 3.84 percent of Polavaram works of Polavaram. This apart, that government has brought in a new proposal that the height of the project is only 41.15 metres," the Chief Minister said.
"This white paper is being released so that the people get to know the ground reality," Naidu maintained.
Expressing serious concern that even the geographical structure of the project has changed due to the "miserable decisions" of the previous government, Naidu said people should know and discuss thoroughly how the state had suffered during the five-year "destructive rule" of the YSRCP.
Maintaining that before the Centre presents the budgetary proposals before Parliament, it should also take note of the issues being faced by the state, he said "This is the reason as to why we have decided to release white papers on seven issues and then budgetary proposals will be presented before the Assembly...////...
