Kolkata, May 14 (Reporter) Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay (retired) and the BJP's Tamluk Lok Sabha candidate have moved an application in the Calcutta High Court seeking judicial intervention in quashing an FIR against him filed by the West Bengal Police in an alleged murder attempt while he was proceeding to file his candidature nomination, court sources said on Tuesday.
The court, which accepted the plea, is expected to hear it later Tuesday as the counsel of the BJP leader told the court that his client was facing problems for his electioneering in Purba Medinipur and elsewhere in the state.
The matter is expected to be heard by the Single Bench of Justice Jay Sengupta, the sources added.
Abhijit Gangopadhyay has been named in the FIR as an accused in an attempted murder case.
The FIR alleged that Gangopadhyay had allegedly assaulted certain protesting people who had lost their jobs as a result of a recent High Court ruling in the case of alleged teacher recruitment irregularities.
Counsel for the former judge, Rajdeep Majumdar, alleged the FIR was politically motivated to prevent his client from electioneering in the ongoing 2024 Lok Sabha polling...////...
