Mumbai, Dec 12 (Reporter) Ex-Maharashtra DGP Sanjay Pandey was questioned by the Thane police crime branch for nearly four hours in connection with an extortion case registered against him and other police personnel in August, an official said here on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Amar Singh Jadhav of the Thane Crime Branch said that former Mumbai Commissioner appeared before the officials who had asked him several questions, and based upon his reply, his statement was recorded.
Sources said that though his statement was recorded, the police will call him as and when required.
Earlier, the High Court had granted him an interim bail restraining police from arresting him till January 3.
The extortion case was registered by Thane Nagar against Pandey, following a complaint by businessman Sanjay Punamiya, who alleged that Pandey misused his position to initiate illegal investigations against him and extorted money from him and other businessmen by threatening to book them in false cases.
Along with Pandey, retired ACP Sardar Patil, police inspector Manohar Patil, advocate Shekhar Jagtap, and builder Shymsundar Agrawal and two members of his family have also been booked. Agrawal is a former business partner of the complainant, Punamiya...////...
