Chennai, Dec 9 (Reporter) Six days after he was expelled from Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a key ally of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu and a partner at the Opposition INDIA bloc at the National level, its Deputy General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna on Sunday resigned from the party. He was expelled from the party for six months on December nine for his offensive remarks against the DMK during a book release function, which had caused murmurs in the VCK-DMK alliance. In a post this evening, he was resigning from the VCK as he did not want to given any room for debate following his expulsion. Stating that he had taken decision to quit the VCK with heavy heart and due to compulsion of time, Arjuna also said he did not have any differences within the party. He also said he did not want to create any rift with VCK Founder and Lok Sabha MP Thol Thirumuvalavan who he said was being held in high esteem. He said in the coming days he would follow the path shown by architect of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar by raising questions against the power, eradication of caste, ensuring social justice and rights for the people, slavery against women, their empowerment and fight against corruption. In his resignation letter addressed to Mr Thirumavalavan, he said he was willing to travel along with VCK in fighting for the rights for the oppressed classes and agitations organised by VCK. "My political journey will continue based on the principles of people's democracy, equality and equal justice with your blessings", he added. Arjuna had made some offensive remarks targetting the DMK a function organised to release a book "Dr Ambedkar: Leader for All" and presided over by actor and TVK President Vijay recently. His remarks had allegedly caused some murmur in the alliance leading to his temporary expulsion after a section of the leaders in VCK strongly demanded action against him. A couple of hours after announcing the expulsion of Arjuna from the party Mr Thirumavalavan met Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin at the State Secretariat and presented a cheque for Rs 10 lakh as his party's contribution for Cyclone Fengal. During the meeting, the VCK Chief was believed to have explained the party's position to Mr Stalin, ensuring that the dalit outfit will always remain with the DMK-led Front and would face the 2026 Assembly polls as its ally. In the event, Arjuna, who is the son in law of lottery king Santiago Martin, asserted that the 2026 assembly election will put an end to monarchical type birth-based succession to power in Tamil Nadu, apparently taking a dig at the DMK, causing embarassment within the VCK. Mr Thirumavalavan, who had initially planned to attend the book release event, decided to stay away and share the stage with Vijay as it would send wrong political signals. Vijay in his party's first political conference had declared that BJP was TVK's ideological enemy and the DMK was political enemy and criticised for pursuing dynastic politics. He had also said if TVK came to power in 2026, it was not averse to sharing power with the allies--a concept never seen in Tamil Nadu political history--which was also welcomed by the VCK's Thirumavalavan, who too had earlier broached the subject, but backtracked it later. In a statement, Thirumavalavan said Arjuna had brought disrepute to the leadership and its credibility besides raising severe criticism in the public domain and could set a bad precedent. Hence he was suspended for six months. Later talking to reporters after meeting Mr Stalin, he stoutly denied that the decision to suspend Arjuna was taken due to apparent pressure from the DMK. “Absolutely there is no pressure from the DMK. The decision was taken in the interest of the party", he said, adding, while allowing Arjuna to attend the function, he had been clearly told not to speak any politics, and restrict his address on Dr Ambedkar. Since he violated the party discipline, he was suspended for six months after discussing the matter with senior functionaries, he added. Thirumavalavan had earlier said that Arjuna attended the event as the Founder of poll strategy firm, Voice of Commons, which brought out the book on Ambedkar...////...
