Five killed in car accident near Chennai, TN CM condoles

Chennai, May 15 (Reporter) Five people were killed in a road accident on the East Coast Road near Chennai in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu late last night. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Wednesday condoled the deaths. An official release here said the victims were returning to Chennai from Puducherry on the ECR in car. When the car reached the stretch coming under Vayalur village near Kalpakkam, about 70 km from here, on the ECR, the driver lost control and the car rammed into a roadside tree. While four people--Rajesh, Mathesh, Yuvaraj and Elumalai--were killed on the spot, another person, Vigneswaran succumbed to injuries at the Chengalpattu Government Hospital after failing to respond to the treatment. All the five victims hailed from Chennai. Police are investigating to ascertain whether high speeding or whether the driver lost control while trying to avoid hitting a cow that crossed the road, that led to the mishap. According to locals, a cow had crossed the road at the time of the mishap. Mr Stalin expressed deep anguish and grief over the deaths of five people and offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
