Four arrested in Hyderabad for circulating fake election video

Hyderabad, May 17 (Reporter) Cyber Crimes, Hyderabad, arrested four individuals for circulating an old video with fake information about the election process and making it viral. Based on a complaint, the Cyber Crime Police traced the accused--Vurapalli Sravan of Malkajgiri, Mohammed Bin Ali Al Gutmi of Nampally, Peedamulla Kashi of Osmanpura, Chaderghat, and Kanukati Mithilesh of Chikkadpally. They were produced before the XII ACMM Court, Nampally, a police statement said on Friday. On Wednesday, the complainant, while browsing social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook as part of social media surveillance, came across a video showing a person voting multiple times at a polling station. The video claimed that this incident occurred at a polling station in Bahadurpura (Old City), Hyderabad, during the recent Lok Sabha elections held on May 13. However, the alleged video was an old recording from the West Bengal elections held in 2022. This video went viral on various social media platforms, potentially undermining public confidence in India's electoral system. Several individuals were found sharing this old video from the West Bengal elections and circulating false information that rigging occurred in Old City, Hyderabad. Based on the complaint, a case was registered U/Sec 66(D) of the IT Act, U/Sec 505(1)(C), 171-C r/w 171-F of the IPC, and an investigation was initiated. During the investigation, the accused were identified as the ones who posted the video on X (Twitter) and circulated it with false information about rigging at a polling station in Bahadurpura, Hyderabad, during the recent Lok Sabha elections on May 13. They did this without verifying the video's authenticity and tagged others with the intent to create a situation that would necessitate re-elections in Hyderabad...////...
