Four law students die, one hurt in car mishap

Chennai, Aug 2 (Reporter) Four law college students died and their friend was seriously injured when the car in which they were travelling fell into a roadside pit off the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) here on Thursday evening. Police said a group of five friends, studying in a private law college at Kelambakkam went to Kovalam when the accident occurred, while trying to hit a dog that tried to cross the road. While three of them died on the spot, one person succumbed at the hospital. The five friends were Maha Swetha (21), Pavithra (21), Carline Paul (31), Ligneshwaran (23) and Siva (23). Siva, who was behind the wheels was turning on to the Padur-OMR bypass road near the Padur junction, when a dog jumped across the road. Siva, swerved the vehicle to avoid hitting the dog, but lost control and the car fell into a roadside pit. In the impact, Maha Swetha, Pavithra and Lingeshwaran died on the spot, while the other two suffered serious injuries. Passersby who rushed to their rescue used crowbar and metal roads to break open the vehicle and pull the youngsters out. Carline and Siva were rushed to a private hospital, where the former died without responding to treatment on Friday morning, while Siva is battling for his life.
