General elections: AP records 81.86 percent voter turnout

Vijayawada, May 15 (Reporter) Andhra Pradesh has recorded 81.86% voter turnout in the election held for State Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha on Monday. The poll percentage is higher by 2.09 percent than 2019 general elections. Informing this to the media at a press conference here on Wednesday, AP Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena said that the total voting percentage in the state was 81.86%, the highest in the country in the four phases of general elections. He said that the polling percentage in 2014 elections in AP was 78.41% and in the 2019 elections it was 79.77%. The highest polling percentage 90.91% recorded in Darsi Assembly constituency while the lowest polling percentage 63.32% was recorded in Tirupati constituency. The CEO said that there are 4,13,33,702 total number of voters in the state of which 3,33,40,560 voted for Lok Sabha Election and 3,33,40,333 voted for Assembly Elections, adding that there is a difference of 227 votes in the polling for Assembly and Lok Sabha. “The voting percentage from EVM stands at 80.66% while postal ballot voting percentage stands at 1.2% and the total polling percentage in AP is 81.86%. The polling was continued after 6 pm in over 3,500 polling stations across the state. The polling concluded in a polling station at 2 am the next day ” Meena stated, adding that the polling was extended due to unexpected rain.
