Hardships of Gulf workers are heartbreaking: KTR

Hyderabad, July 14 (Reporter) BRS Working President and former minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) expressed deep concern over the hardships faced by Gulf workers, describing their situation as heartbreaking. Speaking at the launch of the book “Meka Batuku” written by Swarna Kilari at Prasad Labs on Sunday, KTR shared his personal experience of visiting Dubai and witnessing the challenging conditions in which the workers live. KTR remarked, "Hearing and seeing the hardships of the Gulf workers is heartbreaking. It is sad to see the conditions they are living in there." He mentioned previous efforts to formulate a policy for Gulf workers and highlighted the work done through the company Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited (TOMCOM),, emphasising the need for more comprehensive efforts. He further added, "Migration is as real as it is. Extortion in migration is just as real, whether it is in Dubai, Hyderabad, or anywhere else. I went to the prison in Dubai for Peddur migrant workers and, after many attempts, we finally managed to bring them back to India after years." KTR recalled a past discussion with former Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, regarding the exploitation of women from Telugu states in the Gulf and the need for government intervention to stop it. He pointed out that there has been a historical migration from Palamuru district, which contributed to building the country. Today, many people are migrating from rural areas of Telangana to Hyderabad for various opportunities. Addressing the decreasing habit of reading in society, KTR praised the organisation's efforts in bringing this book to the public and stressed the importance of supporting literature that can bring dynamism and change to society. He called for more efforts to promote literature through digital media, including audio books, alongside traditional book publications...////...
