Chandigarh, Feb 21 (Reporter) The Haryana government filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday to prevent protesting farmers from going to Delhi.
In a petition, the Haryana government has demanded that the Punjab govt should take strict action against the protestors so as to maintain law and order.
The High Court refused to take immediate action on the petition.
A day ago, the High Court heard a public interest petition filed by an advocate Uday Pratap Singh, in
which it was said that tractor-trailers cannot run on highways under the provisions of the Motor
Vehicle Act.
The PIL argued that ambulances, school buses and pedestrians have been inconvenienced by farmers blocking the road since February 13.
The farmers are protesting in parts of North Indians in support of a charter of demands including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for their crops, a loan waiver and implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations.
The other demands are pension for farmers and agricultural labourers, withdrawal of police cases and compensation for the families of farmers killed during the earlier protest, relief for victims of Lakhimpur Kheri violence and reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act 2013...////...
