Kolkata, June 13 (Reporter) The Central Armed Forces, who were deployed in West Bengal during the seven-phased Lok Sabha polls between April 19 and the June 4 results, will stay up to June 21, according to Calcutta High Court directive, court sources said. The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday extended the deployment of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) across Bengal upto June 21. The Calcutta High Court's interim order was passed by a double bench comprising Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Hirnmay Bhattacharyya. The order was pronounced after the judges were hearing separate petitions filed by Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari and advocate Priyanka Tibrewal, who sought a judicial order in preventing post-poll violence in the state. The HC also directed the state police to coordinate with the central forces and jointly ensure the law and order situation in the state. The petitions were filed amid reports that the state government was considering vacating the school premises where the forces were staying so that the students can resume the classes after summer vacation, sources added. After the results were out on June 4 sporadic incidents of violence were reported from different places even as the Election Commission of India earlier this month had decided to extend the deployment of 400 companies of the CAPF till June 19. The Calcutta HC also ordered the state government to submit a “comprehensive report” to the court by June 14, over the steps and actions taken by the administration to prevent post-poll violence. BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya in a post on Thursday while welcoming the court order said: "No state, other than West Bengal, has required such measures." He said: "It is the spectre of post poll violence, unleashed by TMC goons, that has necessitated this. The ruling dispensation has been cautioned and next date, when Hon'ble Court will once again consider the issue, pertaining to retention of CAPF, beyond 21st June, 2024, has been fixed for the 18th. "Mamata Banerjee must wear this as a badge of honour," Malviya added. “The ruling dispensation has been cautioned against continuation of such post-poll violence which is being done at the behest of the Trinamool goons since the declaration of the results. Truth and the voice of Bengal wins yet again. "The next date is fixed on the 18th of June, 2024 when the Hon’ble Court will once again consider the issue pertaining to retention of CAPF beyond 21st June, 2024,” Nandigram MLA Adhikari said...////...
