Mumbai, Aug 16 (Reporter) The Bombay High Court on Friday issued summons against BJP Lok Sabha member and former Union minister Narayan Rane on an election petition field by Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) candidate Vinayak Raut, who lost to Rane from the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency, seeking cancellation of Rane’s election.
Justice Sarang V Kotwal passed an order on the plea filed by Raut claiming that Rane had won Lok Sabha elections this year by “fraudulent means”.
Raut demanded that Rane’s election from the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat be cancelled and he be banned from contesting elections and voting for five years.
While issuing summons, the court asked Rane and other respondents, including election authorities, to appear before the Court on September 12 to respond to Raut’s claims.
In his plea, Raut has also alleged that voters were threatened and money was distributed and all these allegations were brought to the knowledge of the Election Commission but no action was taken hence he moved the court.
Rane won by a margin of 47,858 votes against Raut...////...
