Kolkata, Aug 23 (Reporter) The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the alleged financial irregularities committed by Sandip Ghosh, ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, since 2021, sources said.
The court also ordered Kolkata Police to handover the case diary and all documents related to the alleged financial lapses to the federal agency by Saturday.
Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj, while hearing a public interest litigation by former deputy superintendent at RG KarHospital, Akhtar Ali, ordered the CBI to probe the alleged financial irregularities
The court noted that multiple agencies probing similar facts would lead to delay and inefficiencies.
“This court directs the investigation be transferred to CBI as multiple investigations will lead to injustice… investigation should not be fragmented to different agencies… The SIT directed the case diary and CCTV footage to CBI by 10 am tomorrow,” the court said.
With this HC direction, the CBI will now be probing both the doctor’s murder as well as the alleged financial irregularities in the institution which is in the eye of a storm due to the horrific crime and subsequent protests by junior doctors since August 9.
In his petition before the HC, Ali alleged that he had filed several complaints against Ghosh before the state authorities but no action had been taken.
He said that only after the death of the doctor had the state government constituted a four-member special investigation team on August 16 to probe the financial wrongdoings.
The court will next hear the case on September 17...////...
